Leslie Cohen has spent about 20 years as a graphic designer and art director, and it shows in her unique approach to the female nude. She creates original oil paintings that are highly pixellated. That's right, pixellated oils! Personally, I found that looking at these paintings created a profound sense of visual dissonance. I was drawn to the soft and titillating images within the hard pixels, but every time my eyes tried to fix the image it became harder to see. It was only after letting go and stepping away from the form that the beauty would become evident. Very clever! The artist has 4 galleries worth of these enigmatic nudes, many of them self portraits. There is a contact email as well as information on how to contact the galleries handling her work. This work reminds me a bit of the wit of Roy Lichenstein, but I feel it has a much more interesting visual punch. I love the use of commercial art technique in fine art, and this artist shows how well that can be done. Bravo!
